TORRANCE, Calif. (Sept. 8, 2014) - Convaid Inc., a Southern California-based manufacturer of lightweight, compact-folding, adaptive-assisted wheelchairs, is helping people with disabilities enjoy the great outdoors. Convaid recently donated a Cruiser wheelchair to Environmental Traveling Companions (ETC), a national pioneer in the field of accessible outdoor adventures for people with disabilities.

The Cruiser wheelchair is one of Convaid's most popular models, engineered to last with solid durability and a convenient compact-folding ability. The Cruiser will be used at ETC's camp location at the South Fork of the American River to assist people with disabilities to and from the river's edge for their adaptive whitewater rafting program. ETC makes the joy and challenge of outdoor adventures accessible to people with disabilities and disadvantaged youth, inspiring self-confidence, connection to nature, and stewardship of the environment.

"We needed transport that was lightweight, durable and would allow us to easily assist someone with a disability to the river's edge," said Diane Polosky, executive director of Environmental Traveling Companions. "I was so excited when I met Chris Braun, president of Convaid, and learned about Convaid's extensive line of mobility products. The Cruiser wheelchair folds right up when not in use, and is so easy to store and transport. In addition, I was able to work directly with a Convaid sales rep to identify the type of wheelchair that would best meet the needs of our participants with special needs."

Founded in 1972 by three river rafting guides, ETC began offering whitewater rafting trips to disadvantaged youth and people with disabilities on California's Stanislaus River in the Sierra foothills. ETC has since expanded to include sea kayaking, cross-country skiing, and youth leadership programs and serves more than 1,200 people with disabilities each year.

"Convaid is committed to helping people with disabilities live richer, fuller lives, as is ETC, so partnering together made perfect sense," said Braun. "We greatly value our relationships with nonprofits and community organizations, as it allows us to reach a broader audience and make a greater impact in the lives of people with special needs."

Convaid satisfies the assisted mobility needs of thousands of special needs families every year by manufacturing pediatric push wheelchairs in a variety of sizes and models, and backs its products with one of the best warranties in the industry and a highly responsive customer service department. The patented compact folding mechanism allows custom wheelchairs to be easily carried up steps, placed in the trunk of most compact cars, or used while traveling. Convaid's wheelchairs provide the optimal combination of corrective positioning, comfort, durability and safety for the user, in a product that is both attractive and easy-to-use for the caregiver.

By producing best-in-class products, advocating on behalf of special needs families, and contributing both in-kind and financially to special needs organizations and causes, Convaid is dedicated to helping families reclaim their freedom.
